Belgium’s Montea teams up with IMPEC to enter German logistics market

Belgian logistics specialist Montea is expanding its activities to Germany for the first time as part of its international expansion strategy. The company cited the strong growth of the logistics market in Europe and the leading role of the German economy as the main drivers for its decision to enter the highly competitive German market.

The company, which is currently active in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, is joining forces with IMPEC Real Estate GmbH to search for development and investment opportunities in the country. Under the agreement, Montea will act as a financial partner for these projects during the development phase, as well as investor for the end products.

Montea said it expects to announce its first projects in Germany before the end of this year, following a recent capital increase and an optional dividend to fund the German expansion.

According to Jo De Wolf, CEO of Montea, “This decision was not taken overnight. Its central location, excellent infrastructure, high-technology and building standards make Germany today Europe’s most attractive logistics market. We therefore fully believe that we can achieve our ambitions in Germany through a strong cooperation with the IMPEC Group.”

Like Montea, IMPEC has grown out of a family business and shares Montea’s same values with the focus on long-term value creation through built-to-suit developments.

IMPEC, founded in 1993 by Gerhard Mannsperger, has developed over 550,000 sqm of leased storage space, and has transacted about €400m over the past years.

‘With Montea as a financially robust partner, we will be able to increase our impact significantly and in so doing meet the increased demand for high-quality real estate and our own ambition,’ said Domenique Mannsperger, son of the IMPEC founder and Director Montea Germany.
